چکیده
Enteric duplication is an uncommon malformation of the gastrointestinal tract which is either asymptomatic or presents with vague symptoms mimicking other more common pathology. It is most commonly diagnosed when complications such as bleeding, intestinal obstruction or perforation occurs. This is a case report of a patient with this condition presenting with right iliac fossa pain and localised peritonitis mimicking acute appendicitis.

Perforated caecal duplication cyst presenting as an appendicular abscess.
A duplication cyst of the caecum is a very rare congenital malformation, representing 0.4% of all gastrointestinal duplications. We present a case of cystic duplication of the caecum in a 12-year-old child who presented with a right iliac fossa mass and peritonitis. An ischaemic, perforated caecal duplication cyst was found on emergency laparotomy, mandating a right hemicolectomy.
متن کاملAppendectomy and Resection of the Terminal Ileum with Secondary Severe Necrotic Changes in Acute Perforated Appendicitis
BACKGROUND Resectional procedures for advanced and complicated appendicitis are performed infrequently. Their extent can vary: cecal resection, ileocecectomy, and even right hemicolectomy. We present a very rare case of appendectomy that was combined with partial ileal resection for severe necrotic changes and small perforation of the ileum. CASE REPORT A 19-year-old female patient was hospit...
متن کاملPerforated caecal diverticulitis mimicking an acute appendicitis: a case report
Right iliac fossa pain, nausea and vomiting in young adults are common symptoms that require careful surgical assessment with acute appendicitis being a common cause. Uncommonly, other conditions can mimic this presentation such as caecal diverticulitis. This condition is often misdiagnosed due to lack of characteristic features and the commonest method of detection is an intraoperative one. He...
متن کاملAcute appendicitis after a prior appendicectomy: an unorthodox surgical paradox.
Acute appendicitis after prior appendicectomy is highly difficult to diagnose, especially in face of definite history of appendicectomy and presence of appendicectomy scar in the right iliac fossa. We are highlighting a case report of a 40 year old woman who despite having had appendicectomy 2 years back presented with severe abdominal pain in the right iliac fossa in association with anorexia,...
متن کاملAppendicular mass complicating acute appendicitis in a patient with dengue fever.
Abdominal pain with dengue fever can be a diagnostic challenge. Typically, pain is localised to the epigastric region or associated with hepatomegaly. Patients can also present with acute abdomen. We report a case of a girl with dengue fever and right iliac fossa pain. The diagnosis of acute appendicitis was made only after four days of admission. An appendicular mass and a perforated appendix ...
